We will rope up here and put on crampons for the glacier crossing. Care should be taken crossing the glacier as there are several deep crevasses (in autumn 2016 there was one ladder approx. 5m long over one crevasse). The views are amazing with Baruntse, Ama Dablam and Chamlang on the horizon. Once across the glacier, we come to the bottom of a steep snow and ice headwall leading to the summit ridge. There are fixed ropes up the headwall and we will use a jumar to climb this section. The slope is steep (up to 50degrees in places) and after approximately 200m the summit ridge is reached. Suddenly Lhotse South Face looms before us and the most exciting part of the climb begins as we tread carefully along the narrow ridge to the summit. There’s one more steep section just before the summit, but we have the fixed ropes to help. Finally, we reach the summit (6,189m), which has only just enough space for the group to take in their surroundings. Flanked by Lhotse and the Imja glaciers and a host of other huge peaks, Island Peak really is an island of rock and snow in this grand mountain area. We descend carefully back down the ridge and then abseil off the steep section. We return via High Camp to Base Camp and then we descend further to the relative comforts of the lodge at Chhukung.

Day 13: Island Peak Base Camp to High Camp (5,350m) 3 hours
After having breakfast, we pack our camping stuff. We start the climb up the hill making our way through the narrow slopes and uncompromising paths. After 2-3 hours walk upwards, the trail will finally take you to the High Camp of Island Peak, where we stay for overnight. This is where our guide will fix crampons on your climbing boots and re-check the entire climbing group and personal equipment once again for better safety. If required, you may learn last minute climbing technique with our climbing Sherpa at this stage. If possible, you will be also taken to the ice/rock climbing nearby but subject to the availability. Overnight at High Camp.
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Day 14: Climb to Island Peak top (6,173m) early in the morning and trek down to chhukung 11/12 hours
Leaving very early (about 2 am) we scramble onto a narrow rocky gully and onto a rocky ridge leading on to the glacier. Crampon point is about 2-2.5 hrs from high camp.
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Day 15: Chhukung to Tengboche (3,860m) 7/8 hours
Today is a long way but it is mostly going on the downhill. As you know we are heading lower height, so no worry for altitude. So keep on moving downhill and pass Dingboche, we re-join the main busy trail of Everest. In this way, we pass Pangboche and cross the Dudh Koshi River by a bridge. An undulating trail takes us through a magnificent rhododendron forest near Devoche, from where we have a short climb up to Tengboche. Tengboche is one of the old and popular monasteries in the Khumbu region. The monks and big lamas are chanting by a musical instrument which is modiolus. From here, we see the majestic views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Lhotse Sar and other peaks. Overnight in Tengboche.
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Day 16: Tengboche to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) 5/6 hours
We trek down to Phungithanka, a small settlement with a couple of teahouses. The trail leads downhill through the forest path of Silver, Fir, Blue pines, Rhododendrons and some few Magnolia and Birch trees and with great memories and after crossing the suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River trek onwards to the Sanasa and track to Namchebazzar for the overnight.

Day 15: Lukla to Kathmandu (1,350m) by Air and transfer to hotel.
Early in the morning, we take a flight back to Kathmandu. A short forty minute flight and we are back in bustling Kathmandu, a slightly surreal experience after spending the last 15 days in the highest mountains in the world. You deserve a good rest or you may spend your time shopping around for Himalayan souvenirs for your friends and family. Overnight in hotel at Kathmandu.

Day 16: Free day with a sightseeing tour.
A reserve or spare day in Kathmandu is well worth it as there are lots to do and see here. Of course, there may be a flight delay or cancellation due to bad weather in Lukla which occurs sometimes, so it is important to have a spare day or two in case this happens. Himalayan weather can be very unpredictable! So if you have the time visit the Durbar Square, the Bodhnath, Swayambhunath or Pashupatinath. An eye-opening experience!! It is the usual practice for clients to invite their guides/porters to share a farewell dinner and exchange a khata (ceremonial scarf) if you have been happy with the service provided by the guide a tip is given. Relive your experiences of the trek around the dinner table and enjoy your last night in Kathmandu. Tomorrow you will fly home. Overnight in hotel in Kathmandu.
Included meal: Breakfast
